After an initial consultation and assessment of all the registered Year 4 children, small groups are formed based on their age and academic ability. The primary objective of this course is to ensure that all students have a robust foundation, which will enable them to excel in the final 11 plus exams. This course covers core concepts in Maths, English and Verbal reasoning.

The foundation stage focuses on understanding and developing problem-solving skills in the following topics:
- Number and place value: Children learn about whole numbers, decimals, and fractions, including understanding place value, comparing and ordering numbers, and rounding.
- Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division: Children develop fluency and accuracy in these operations, including using mental and written methods, solving word problems, and understanding the relationship between them.
- Ratio, proportion, and percentages: Children learn about the relationship between these concepts, including using them to solve problems in real-life contexts, such as money and measurement.
11+ Foundation English
This course focuses on enhancing the fundamental skills of the subject by covering the following topics:
- Literary Techniques – use of figurative devices and descriptive tools
- Comprehension – Identifying different question styles and applying different techniques accordingly
- Dialogue – how to include and punctuate dialogue effectively.
- Vocabulary – the importance of powerful verbs, adjectives and connotations in any sentence
- Creative writing – how to write stories; how to continue given extracts and how to respond using stimulus (e.g. pictures)
- Spellings, Grammar and Punctuation –
- Parts of speech: nouns, verbs, modal verbs, pronouns, adjectives and adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, determiners
- Verb agreement: subjects and objects, tenses: progressive and perfect, active and passive voice, subjunctive verb forms, tenses: simple past, present and future
- Different types of sentences and sentence openers
- Regular support on spelling
11+ Foundation Verbal Reasoning
The children are taught a variety of techniques necessary for tackling various types of questions in verbal reasoning tests. Some of them are:
